Today we bring you yesterday’s news from Japan and Asia.

More than 2 million products have been affected, some of which have been sold for many years.

The slogan of Japanese affordable home furnishing chain Nitori is "Onedan ijo", which roughly translates as "Quality exceeds price." Unfortunately, it turns out that some of Nitori's products also exceed expectations for their asbestos content.

The chain is recalling several products, all made in China, containing diatomaceous earth, which can be used to make solid but porous materials. This water absorption makes it a useful component in some of Nitori's bathroom mats and coasters, but it turns out that when the recalled items are torn, crushed or otherwise crushed, they release asbestos.

A total of nine products have been recalled, of which seven are from the Sarasara Coaster series (product codes 783412, 7833316, 7833315, 7833245, 7833079 and 7832888), and two are from the Kaiteki Sarasara bathroom mat series (717704 and 776704).

▼ Yes, unfortunately the recall includes charming pink leaves and cute cat-shaped coasters.

All of these products have been on sale since at least January this year, and one of the bath mats has been available since December 2016, resulting in about 2.4 million pieces being affected by the recall. Although Nitori is still categorizing the exact method of the recall, the company requires customers who purchase these items to stop using them immediately, because even if no one wants wet feet or a water ring on a coffee table, these are still things we would rather encounter The problem is not willing to inhale asbestos.
